Glendora Youth Volleyball (GYV) was established in 1993 to teach young athletes the fundamentals of volleyball. The Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angles honored the program by awarding a $5,000 grant for their contribution and dedication to youth sports.
Glendora Youth Volleyball is a recreational program that capitalizes on its fundamental philosophy of providing an instructional, competitive, and fun environment to youth of the San Gabriel Valley. This program is open to both girls and boys between the ages of 6-18. Each division is separated by school grade level in order to offer an atmosphere of competition that is commensurate to each participant’s playing abilities. Special rule adjustments are incorporated into the structure of competition so that all players’ needs are met. Physically challenged athletes are included as they align to the Special Olympics rules and regulations governing their play.
Our program consistently registers 500 athletes each year with 48 team and 10-12 participants per team. Winter registration opens in November with competition beginning in January for eight consecutive weeks. All new participants will be assessed during try-outs and later drafted onto a team by a coach. Practices are held once a week either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 3:30PM or 4:30PM. All matches are played on Saturday inside the gymnasium at Citrus Community College in Glendora, California.
Marilyn Gunstream, President and founder of Glendora Youth Volleyball, is the former collegiate volleyball coach at Citrus Community College. While coaching, her teams won several conference titles and were frequent qualifiers to the state championship. Her peers honored her as a five time “Coach of the Year”.
